History and Usage:
Also known as Siberian Ginseng, Siberian Eleutherococcus supplements are made from the dried root of Eleutherococcus senticosus, a plant indigenous to China, Japan, Korea and Siberia. Although it is a distant relative and is chemically different from American and Korean ginseng, it does seem to have some similar effects. Eleutherococcus is relatively new in Western natural medicine but has been used for centuries in China and Russia.
Eleutherococcus is known as an adaptogen, which means it helps restore the body’s natural balance. It is particularly useful during times of stress, helping the body resist the effects of tension and stress. Siberian ginseng contains active ingredients called eleutherosides (similar to gensinosides in Korean and American ginseng), which are believed to stimulate the immune system and improve stamina.
